Eucalyptus globulus is one of mother natures best antiseptics. It can be used in creams, massage oil blends or directly in the bath as aromatherapy. Because of the strong camphorous aroma of eucalyptus it can also be used in an oil warmer for helping concentration, hay fever, sinus congestion or just sneezing attacks, insect repellent, colds, flu or breathing difficulties.

Eucalyptus essential oil can also be used to effectively fight dust mites that live in bedding. Dust mites live off our dead skin flakes which naturally sheds into bed linens and pillows. If there are pets in the house they shed skin flakes naturally too. A simple remedy is achieved by adding 25 drops of Eucalyptus essential oil to each load of bed linen laundry. Besides working against dust mites in the bed linens, this will leave laundry smelling quite clean and fresh as well. Some indications of dust mite allergy are: runny nose, sinus infection, irritated watery eyes, headaches, sneezing, coughing, skin irritation, eczema and feeling fatigued, just to name a few.

Suggested Use

  • Baths: Add 5-10 drops of essential oil(s) to a warm running bath. If you have sensitive skin, blend the essential oil in a teaspoon of carrier oil first. Close the door so the vapours don’t escape. Soak for at least 10 minutes, relaxing and breathing deeply.
  • Massage: Use 5-6 drops of essential oil per 10ml of carrier oil. Mix thoroughly and apply liberally to the skin.
  • Inhalations: Add 4-5 drops of essential oil to a bowl of steaming water. Place a towel over your head, close your eyes and lean over the bowl. Inhale the vapour for a few minutes.
  • Burners and Diffusers: Fill the bowl of the burner or vaporiser with water and add 3-6 drops of essential oil. Light the candle and the oil will evaporate as the water heats up. Do not let the bowl dry out.
  • Eucalyptus essential oil blends well with cypress, juniper, lavender, or lemon.
