Paraffin wax
From N$120.00
Paraffin Wax is a refined, odorless, colorless to white solid wax derived from petroleum. It is composed mainly of saturated hydrocarbons and is widely used in cosmetic, pharmaceutical, candle-making, and industrial applications. Due to its smooth texture, stable structure, and excellent moisture-sealing properties, paraffin wax is a versatile and dependable ingredient in both skincare and manufacturing.
In cosmetic formulations, paraffin wax functions primarily as an occlusive agent. This means it forms a protective barrier on the surface of the skin, helping to reduce moisture loss and protect against environmental dryness. Its ability to melt evenly and resolidify smoothly makes it especially valuable in creams, balms, ointments, and therapeutic treatments.
Paraffin wax is available in different melting points depending on its intended use, and cosmetic-grade paraffin is carefully refined to meet safety standards for topical application.

Product Description
Benefits
Moisture Barrier Protection
Paraffin wax creates a protective layer on the skin that helps lock in hydration. This makes it particularly beneficial for very dry, cracked, or rough skin areas.
Deep Conditioning Effect
When used in warm wax treatments, paraffin helps open pores and allows deeper penetration of moisturizing ingredients applied underneath it.
Softens and Smooths Skin
Regular use in body care formulations may improve the feel and texture of dry or hardened skin, particularly on hands, feet, elbows, and heels.
Improves Product Texture
In cosmetic formulations, paraffin wax contributes to thickness, stability, and structure, helping creams and balms maintain consistency.
Even and Clean Burning (Candle Use)
Paraffin wax is widely used in candle manufacturing due to its ability to burn cleanly and evenly while holding fragrance effectively.
Common Applications
Skincare and Cosmetic Products
Paraffin wax is used in:
-
Moisturizing creams
-
Healing balms
-
Ointments
-
Lip balms
-
Foot treatments
-
Hand creams
Typical cosmetic usage levels range from 2% to 30%, depending on the desired texture and thickness of the product.
Spa and Therapeutic Treatments
Paraffin wax is commonly used in professional hand and foot treatments. Warm melted wax is applied to the skin, then covered and left to cool. This process helps soften the skin and temporarily relieve stiffness in joints and muscles.
Candle Making
It is one of the most popular waxes for container and molded candles due to its reliable melting point and strong fragrance throw.
How to Use
In Cosmetic Formulations
Paraffin wax should be melted gently using a double boiler at approximately 55–70°C, depending on its melting point. It must be fully melted and combined with the oil phase before blending with the water phase (if creating an emulsion). Allow the product to cool gradually while stirring to maintain smooth consistency.
For Paraffin Spa Treatment
Melt the wax in a controlled heating unit until fully liquefied. Allow it to cool slightly to a safe, warm temperature before application. Dip or brush the wax onto clean skin in layers. Cover with plastic and wrap with a towel for 10–20 minutes before gently peeling off the wax.
Safety
Paraffin wax intended for cosmetic use should always be cosmetic grade. It is generally considered safe for external application when used properly.
Avoid overheating, as melted wax can cause burns. Always test temperature before applying to skin. Do not apply to broken, irritated, or infected skin.
Because paraffin is occlusive, individuals with very acne-prone skin may prefer lighter alternatives for facial use. Store in a cool, dry place away from direct heat sources.
For external use only.
